Land of the Scots and the Isles of Skye remains a source of potential trouble for the English Crown. The fact that Scotland shares a common border with England is enough to make any ruler very wary of their neighbor, north or south – especially as Scotland usually has decent relations with France. England fears that France would use Scotland as a springboard for an invasion. And then there is the Border Wars and Reivers on both sides to contend with.

The Lands of the Marshes long-standing dream of establishing an independent Welsh principality has crumbled. Wales achieves something known as a reverse takeover; instead of a Welsh prince of Wales, there is a Welsh king of England and Wales with the accession to the English throne of the Welsh-origin Tudors, transforms Wales from a conquered territory to an integral part of the English kingdom, by a simple an act of parliament.

Once ruled by Irish lordships, English policy was to break the link between the lords and their armed followers...."to reduce them from rudeness to knowledge, from treachery to honesty, from savageness to civility, from idleness to labour, from wickedness to Godliness, whereby they may the sooner espy their blindness, acknowledge their looseness, amend their lives, frame themselves pliable to the laws and ordinances of his Majesty whom God with his gracious assistance preserve, as well to the prosperous government of the Realm of England as to the reformation of her realm of Ireland”
